I think the first essay informed the reader on the struggles that not only at risk kids face in the school system but also the teachers who care about the students. I also think it was interesting and I kind of agree with the author when he equated the battles of the school system with his martial arts training.

I thought this was a very inspiring story of a man who learned his way out of the streets by using his education. I thought it was very powerful that he said while he is looking for a Jane Austin book while most of his friends were either dead or in jail. I think that this proves a point that anyone can become educated no matter where you come from or what your background is.

I think that this essay also ties into what the second essay was trying to do which to me was tell the reader an inspiring story or tell them their role model. This is one is also important because it isnt the person telling their own story it is a person telling someone elses story and how it effected them.
